19 Jun TeamWise: Power Audio Tours
It’s empowering to understand the world, relationships, and people through art engagement.
Power Audio Tours increases visitor-to-artwork engagement by creating spellbinding self-guided tour experiences that run on visitors’ smartphones. Their team is made up of three sisters, Sheila Mayfield, Mary Ward, and Eve Reed, and two of their friends, Betsy Wittenmyer and Tiffany Smith.
Sheila is driven by her passion for art and she wants to share this passion with others.
Museums can only display about 10% of their total collections, and very few people fully interact with even this small fraction of publicly displayed works. Additionally, visitors spend much of their viewing time reading wall descriptions instead of keeping their eyes on the priceless cultural artifacts front of them. They rarely have time to study a piece of art? in depth to gain full appreciation for the context behind a work. Power Audio Tours will fill the gap by providing audio tours via smartphones, enabling visitors to learn and interact with artwork in more meaningful way.
Mary shared that their team has a common passion for art and education, and it’s exciting to be involved in an initiative that helps foster both.
Betsy echoed these sentiments, explaining that communicating cultural content effectively and providing avenues for engagement can convey powerful messages to individuals and communities.
Take every opportunity to learn something new, even in unsuspecting places.
Sheila’s inquisitive lifestyle is driven by this principle and she hopes to showcase how art can deliver meaning to anyone. She went on to share one of her favorite facts about art: When Leonardo da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa he had both male and female models—because the artist believed that the best worldview reflected ideas from both genders.
